Genesis 12:1-3

Missions reports can be complicated to personally apply for many of us. If giving up two weeks in the summer isn’t possible for you, how can I be “on mission”?

We mistakenly reduce being “on mission” to a multiple choice answer question: which pre-trodden route will I take? Izamal or Turkey or Argentina? Pastor, Missionary, Christian influencer, etc.

Mission is not a multiple choice answer question that’s supposed to limit to the only options presented before us. It would be too exclusive. It misses the main point.

Missions is a true or false question: Will you follow me?

It boils back down to: do you love God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength? And Scripture tells us clearly our evidence of our love for God is OBEDIENCE. Being faithful in where God has placed us.

Do you have a prayer life? Are you daily in the Word and is the Word IN you?

As far as obedience in our life direction, God may call some of us to obey in going to foreign missions or going to ministry. Amen!

But for others — it’s giving up your dreams to pay off family debt, taking an extra job to support your family and sibling with special needs, being a mom raising two young children while recovering from cancer, or being tasked with loving one person back to life.

You may be contemptible to the world or to even the church, but you will be able to present yourself to God as one approved.

So, viewing mission as multiple choice misses the point. Having these opportunities as a church to be missional are simply doors for us to walk our answer to the True/False question.

Are you following Jesus? Are you his disciple? Are you apprenticing under Jesus?

Then we can see that Izamal, Argentina, and Ensenada are fulfillments of what God said to Abraham: because you have been blessed by the gospel, you can now be a blessing to others. We are blessed to be a blessing.
