Purpose:

  1. To encourage the Christians suffering under persecution
  2. To prepare the Christians for greater trial ahead
  3. To show the Christians the hope of glory that lies ahead
  4. To exhort them to fulfill practical Christian duties

Message:

  1. God will balance out the believers’ sufferings with glory and their glories with suffering.
  2. Suffering purifies and proves the believer’s faith and character.
  3. Christ is the “pattern-stone” of suffering and glory.
  4. The cause of the believer’s suffering should only be his godliness and not his lack of discretion.
