Chapters 1-9: Genealogies Chapters 10-29: The Reign of David
Purposes:
- To show the genealogy leading up to the kingly throne of David
- To show the good history of King David’s reign
- To show the order of worship established in David’s Tabernacle and the preparation for the buliding of the Temple under Solomon
- To show the relationship of the kings of Judah to the temple in Jerusalem (interaction between the kings and priests)
Messages:
- God sees our righteous works even when there are unrighteous works present
- God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble
- The progress in our spiritual life is dependent upon our relationship with God
